The Center for Jewish Life provides exciting adult Jewish learning opportunities in a variety of forms: classes, workshops, lectures, discussions, cultural programs, and art exhibits. Our visiting JCC scholar, Rabbi Darren Kleinberg, is a master educator who provides deep learning to a range of groups, both on and off campus, whenever he’s in town.

Our audio podcast, Jewish Thought Leaders, features recordings of our most high-profile speakers and is available by subscription on this site or via iTunes. We’re open to programming suggestions and can always use volunteers to insure continued success, so don’t be shy. Contact Joanne Greene at jgreene@marinjcc.org or phone 415.444.8066.

The Center for Jewish Life at the Osher Marin JCC is generously funded by the Koret-Taube Initiative on Jewish Peoplehood. The OMJCC and the Koret-Taube Initiative share a commitment to exploring our heritage through Jewish education and cultural programming, reflecting our belief that the most effective programs are multi-dimensional and offer a variety of entry points for engagement.

For over two thousand years, people have been inspired by and wrestled with questions about the Jewish people. The Koret Foundation and Taube Philanthropies join forces to encourage the exploration of Jewish life and culture through the twin lenses of legacy and vision.

New Beginnings - Gallery Exhibits

Journeys of the Soul

Original serigraphs and lithographs with hidden symbolism by Bruce David.

August 8 - September 29, 2010

The Osher Marin JCC Isaacs Gallery

The serigraphs, lithographs, complex mosaics and stained glass work of artist Bruce David has been compared to Marc Chagall. In fact, a college textbook on world religions by McGraw Hill uses the work of only two artists – Chagall and Bruce David – in its chapter on Jewish art. David’s artwork depicts biblical and Judaic imagery filled with hidden symbolism. Art critic Jeff Stone recently wrote, “Taking a spiritual journey through the depths and dimensions of Bruce David’s painting is dancing with destiny, with history, and with ancestry all at once.”

A Litquake and Osher Marin JCC Event

Spiritual Journeys

Thurs, Oct. 7 @ 7:30pm

For 11 years, Litquake has featured thousands of authors reading from thousands of books in front of tens of thousands of eager lovers of literature.  The JCC is proud to join Litquake and Book Passage to present 4 amazing authors, sharing their literary and spiritual journeys with the community.

Michael Krasny, Spiritual Envy. Host of the nation’s most listened to locally produced NPR talk show (KQED’s Forum with Michael Krasny), and a longtime college professor and literary scholar, Krasny comes to the table with his most resent book. “I was,” he finds, “a doubter, an agnostic, and like perhaps hundreds of thousands of others, a seeker.”

Sylvia Boorstein, Happiness Is An Inside Job. Sylvia Boorstein, Ph.D., is a co-founding teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Center and a senior teacher at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts. She is the bestselling author of five books, a psychotherapist and Buddhist, and a frequent presenter at psychology seminars and meditation retreats throughout the country.

Dani Shapiro, Devotion. Dani Shapiro's most recent books include Black & White, Family History and the best-selling memoir Slow Motion. Her short stories and essays have appeared in The New Yorker, Granta, Tin House, Elle, Bookforum, Oprah, Ploughshares, among others, and have been broadcast on National Public Radio. She is a contributing editor at Travel + Leisure and guest editor of Best New American Voices 2010.

Moderator: Don Lattin is a freelance journalist and the author of four books. His most recent work, THE HARVARD PSYCHEDELIC CLUB – How Timothy Leary, Andrew Weil, Ram Dass and Huston Smith Killed the Fifties and Ushered in a New Age for America, was a national bestseller in 2010.
