Family Connections

For all families with children ages 0-3 and their siblings

This program is intended for all families with small children in the community. No affiliation or membership requirement.

Sunday, October 12 @ 9:30-11:30am - Sukkot "Build a Sukkah"
Celebrate the harvest and eat under a sukkah.

Sunday, December 7 @ 2-4pm - Preparing for Hanukkah
Enjoy festive cooking, music and art together. Learn tips to simplify your preparations and take the stress out of the holiday.

This program is generously funded by the Richard & Rhoda Goldman Fund to create a gateway to welcome families to the Jewish community and provide an opportunity to learn and connect with other families in a meaningful way.

We are excited to present our new Stroller Walks & Storytime

for parents with infants – 4 years.

The group will stop halfway through the walk for a snack and to read a story. Jewish children’s stories will coincide with the seasons and holidays.

Cost is $10 per walk (purchase a punch card for 4 walks to be used at walks of your choice). Price includes 1 adult and up to 3 children.

    Walk will be followed by a special Story time at the Lefferts Jewish Community Library.

    Meet at Blackie’s Pasture on Tiburon Blvd.

    Meet at path for Shoreline Park in San Rafael.

    Meet at Corte Madera Park (Pixley Road off of Tamalpais Drive).

Community Read — One Book, One Jewish Community

Join the families in our community as we all read one book

Pick up your free copy (limited supply) of Hana’s Suitcase at the JCC, Oct. 1-Nov. 1; then join us Nov. 16 for the Community read with the author, Karen Levine for a unique opportunity to hear the author discuss her book with our entire community.

Hana’s Suitcase: A suitcase arrived at a children’s Holocaust education center in Tokyo, Japan. On the outside, in white paint, were these words: Hana Brady, May 16, 1931, and Waisenkind - the German word for orphan. Told in alternating chapters with an account of how the curator of a Japanese holocaust center learned about Hana’s life. An excellent chapter book to read to kids ages 9 and up.

The Lefferts Jewish Community Library Storytime

Ages 3-6

Celebrate Jewish book month in November by coming to the library for storytime. The library staff will read Jewish themed books for children.

Jewish Celebrations

Shabbat

Shabbat is considered the most important of all Jewish holidays and is a day of rest and spiritual enrichment. It is observed from sundown on Friday until the appearance of three stars in the sky on Saturday night.

Please join us every Friday from 12noon to 12:15pm in the Pell Atrium as we light candles, drink grape juice and eat challah together as a community!


Sukkot for Families

Learn to do it yourself!

Join us for a fun-filled day as we learn about the holiday of Sukkot! Families with kids 0-3 can enjoy a Family Connections event in the annex. Then join us as we decorate the JCC Sukkah and learn how to build your own. Sukkah kits will be available for purchase. While your children are decorating the sukkah, join popular local food critic GraceAnn Walden as she discusses fall recipes and meal planning. Snack provided.

Hanukkah Family Festival – Kitka, Krafts & Kids!

Don’t miss out on the best Hanukkah party in town! Come shop our arts fair, with over 25 artists, to buy wonderfully unique Hanukkah gifts. Make candles and menorahs, eat latkes and then watch Kitka perform live. Childcare will be provided during the concert.

KidCare for kids 0-4, and childcare featuring a children’s movie for kids 5-12.

Kitka Concert

Few things evoke the magic of the winter holidays as the transcendent splendor of the human voice raised in song. a treasure-trove of seasonal music from a wide variety of Eastern European, ethnic and spiritual traditions. Call 444.8000 to reserve seats, as the concert will sell out.

Community Hanukkah Candle Lighting

Join us in the lobby of the JCC each afternoon of Hanukkah at 3pm as we light the candles as a community. Sing songs, eat some chocolate gelt and get a dreidel.
