Piyyutim

Wednesday, October 2

1-2pm (PT), 2-3pm (MT), 3-4pm (CT), 4-5pm (ET)

on Zoom

The piyyutim are Jewish liturgical poems written throughout the ages, many of which made their way into spiritual gatherings and even into prayer books. What exactly makes it a piyyut? Who wrote these poems?

Whether or not you celebrate the Jewish High Holidays, get the answers to these and more questions by joining multi-instrumentalist Asaf Ophir for a live concert using piyyutim as lyrics to celebrate a tradition that is as old as Judaism itself, with some of the most well-known melodies such as Yedid Nefesh, Shalom Aleichem, and Lecha Dodi.

About Asaf Ophir

Asaf Ophir began his career in Israel as a woodwind player in musical theater, performing on some of the most distinguished stages in the country. Currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Ophir is often invited to collaborate with artists from a wide variety of cultures, including Jewish, Arabic, European, Persian, Kurdish, and others.

Equally at home with classical, jazz, and world music, Ophir has shared the stage with Miri Mesika, Avi Kushnir, Galit Giat, David De’or, Ustad Mahwash, Rana Farhan, and Barbara Streisand. The San Francisco Chronicle writes: “Asaf Ophir gives the clarinet the timbre of a trumpet, then a violin, then a raspy scream… the instrument’s wail almost becomes too plaintive and beautiful to bear.”

“Early Bird” Ticket: $12.50; available until 48-hours prior to the performance.

“Regular” Tickets: $15; available until the performance begins.

All tickets are 1) are per device, not per person on Zoom, and 2) are non-refundable & non-exchangeable.
